In a late night decision, King Norodom Sihamoni yesterday granted pardon to four Boeng Kak land activists who were convicted of inciting violence and obstructing public officials. According to a royal decree, the King pardoned the group’s outspoken leader Tep Vanny, who was in jail for two years over a 2016 protest.

King Norodom Sihamoni yesterday granted a royal pardon to former Khmer Power Party president Sourn Serey Ratha, who had been jailed for just over a year after being convicted of inciting military personnel disobedience and demoralizing the army.
Prime Minister-designate Hun Sen on Thursday hinted that he could soon request that a royal pardon issued for 14 imprisoned members of the court-dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP). But he was quick to say the move wasn’t a response to international pressure.

Political analyst Kim Sok who walked free from prison on Friday said that he remained critical of the government. Mr Sok was released from prison on Friday morning after serving his 18 months term jail in Prey Sar prison.

A human rights group last week called on the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to carefully analyze all the evidence submitted during the trial of the Adhoc five officials charged with bribery.
