Hun Sen of the ruling political party, CPP  will step down after 34 years in power of the prime minister , or his main political rival for almost two decades, Sam Rainsy, will return to the country from exile to face imprisonment. Such are the terms of an Independence Day wager the two political heavyweights agreed to over the fate of the country’s top political prisoner, Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) president Kem Sokha. P Hun Sen has defended his decision to accept a “bet” offered by opposition figure Sam Rainsy involving the “release” of former Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) president Kem Sokha, denying it violated the authority of the courts. Lawyers of former opposition leader Kem Sokha on Saturday issued a statement condemning an exchange between Sam Rainsy and Prime Minister Hun Sen speculating when Mr Sokha’s treason case would come to an end, calling it “an interference in the judiciary process”.  A defense lawyer for the opposition  defended their “legalism” after Prime Minister Hun Sen slammed them as “incompetent” and “unqualified”, telling them to listen to and analyse what he said before making statements about a “bet”.
