Five civil society organisations (CSOs) in Cambodia working on the Luang Prabang hydropower project in Laos said in a press statement on Tuesday that it should be delayed because Lao authorities have insufficient details concerning the transboundary impact assessment and don’t have concrete measures to mitigate its impact on lower Mekong countries.

Environmental activists were cycling from Koh Kong to Phnom Penh in a campaign to have Koh Kong Krao island designated as a protected area while authorities in Koh Kong province  briefly stopped.  Koh Kong provincial police confiscated more than 10 bicycles from a group of Mother Nature Organisation youths who were riding from Koh Kong province to Phnom Penh to submit a petition to Prime Minister Hun Sen proposing that Koh Kong Krao Island be certified a protected area.

Accountants, auditors, enterprises and NGOs that delay the submission of their tax return forms or commit accounting fraud are liable to a fine of more than 30 million riel ($7,300), according to a new government sub-decree on Transactional Penalties for Violations in Accounting and Auditing Laws.
