A Cambodian court convened for the treason trial of more than 100 opposition figures and then deferred proceedings until next year, delaying a case widely condemned as a move by long-serving premier Hun Sen to decimate his political rivals. More than 100 supporters of the dissolved CNRP who were charged with incitement and plotting. Arriving defendants and their colleagues say the occasion is a chance for the persecuted opposition to show solidarity.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court  again pushed back a trial against nine leaders of the dissolved main opposition party, as the defendants, who are overseas, called for their Cambodian passports to be returned so they can attend.

Three small political parties, which won zero seats in 2018 general elections, officially formed the "Alliance of Khmer Democrats" on Wednesday, aiming to better perform in the 2022 commune elections and 2023 general elections.

Prime Minister Hun Sen on Nov. 25 criticized the French courts for delays to his defamation suit against former opposition figure Sam Rainsy after French judicial officials said the trial won’t take place until at least 2022.  He also boasted of having spies in group chats and video conferences across the country — especially those discussing opposition plans.  Hun Sen has vowed to continue his fight against opposition politicians who he said intend to smash the Hun family.
