A senior Ministry of Environment official has rejected the Cambodian Youth
Network (CYN) report detailing 100 illegal logging incidents they claim took
place in early 2021 in Prey Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary in Preah Vihear
province.
OXFAM Cambodia and the NGO Affiliated Network for Social Accountability
(ANSA) will jointly implement a project aimed at providing input to the
government’s mineral resource development fund.
Three Mother Nature environmentalists — arrested while preparing a video
campaign against the infilling of Phnom Penh’s Boeng Tamok lake — disputed
the alleged criminality of their actions while on trial on Wednesday,
arguing that raising concerns is not “incitement” as charged, their lawyer
said.
An international advocacy group tracking organized crime has accused the
Cambodian government of overlooking, and at times actively protecting
illegal logging groups driving severe deforestation in the ecologically
significant Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary.
