Prime Minister Hun Sen has called on the new United States administration
under President Joe Biden to consider converting the $600 million wartime
debt, that Cambodia has owed to the US since the 1970s wartime period, into
development aid.
The government has decided to place Phnom Penh in lockdown for two weeks,
effective April 14 midnight through April 28, as Cambodia continues to
grapple with the ongoing community outbreak of Covid-19, which has seen no
sign of subsiding. Prime Minister Hun Sen has warned of action against a
number of senior government officials who leaked his April 14 audio message
regarding his decision to place Phnom Penh and neighbouring Kandal
provincial town Takmao in two-week lockdown to curb a sudden surge in
Covid-19 transmission.
