The new party of Cambodia Reform Party (CRP) has said some parties are interested to discuss the ongoing efforts to “unite democrats” to challenge the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) ahead of the elections. Despite some political parties having explored the possibility of uniting the opposition before the upcoming elections, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) said that their efforts will face stumbling blocks, citing apparent disunity among former opposition officials.

Nearly 80% of the 118 senior officials of the court-dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) who were banned from politics have yet to seek political rehabilitation after more than three years of being out of politics, a move seen by the ruling Cambodia People’s Party (CPP) that will change when the election approaches. King Norodom Sihamoni has reinstated the political rights of two more former officials from the Supreme Court-dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).
