A Koh Kong journalist was sentenced to a year in prison for incitement on
Thursday without a lawyer and just two days after being questioned by police
over a report that the deputy governor was “cruel and abuses citizens.”
Minister of National Defence, General Tea Banh, in his capacity as Cambodian
People’s Party representative for Koh Kong, asked provincial authorities to
investigate a journalist’s allegations about the deputy governor’s behaviour
in a land dispute.
UNESCO and the Ministry of Information, and the Ministry of Post and
Telecommunications, the Department of Media and Communication at the Royal
University of Phnom Penh, and civil society organisations, are commemorating
the 2021 International Day of Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) in
Cambodia, on Sept. 28.
