The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) has elected Tea Banh and Men Sam Orn as its vice-presidents. This followed the party’s Central Committee meeting held at its headquarters in Phnom Penh's Chamkarmon district on the morning of December 24. Hun Manet, son of Hun Sen, was selected by the Central Committee of the Party to be the future Prime Minister.

Amid an ongoing dispute over the leadership of the royalist Funcinpec, a rival faction has proposed late King Father Norodom Sihanouk’s youngest daughter Princess Norodom Arunrasmy as the new party president, a move strongly opposed by the current party leadership led by “acting president” Prince Norodom Chakravuth.

In his testimony to the Supreme Court, the opposition Cambodia National Heart Party (CNHP) interim president Seam Pluk has claimed that the forming of his party is aimed to promote liberal multi-party democracy, rejecting as “malicious intent” an allegation from the Ministry of Interior to block the registration of the party. However, The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by a fledgling political party that was denied registration by the Interior Ministry for allegedly having a couple dozen individuals thumbprint a few times each for its application documents.
