The United States has again urged the Cambodian government to be fully transparent about the project at Ream Naval Base after the Minister of Defence said the modernisation of the naval facility with the support from Beijing will “move forward”.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, Vitit Muntarbhorn, is on his first visit to Cambodia and has met with Prime Minister Hun Sen as well as the former leader of the outlawed Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), Kem Sokha. United Nations’ rights envoy to Cambodia Vitit Muntarbhorn discussed opposition parties’ insistence on reforms before next year’s National Election. Minister of Justice Koeut Rith requested that UN Special Rapporteur on human rights situation in Cambodia Vitit Muntarbhorn make his report balanced and fair. Minister of Interior Sar Kheng told UN special rapporteur Vitit Muntarbhorn that authorities are working to crack down on criminal.
