Senate President Hun Sen has praised the growing ties between Cambodia and Canada following Ottawa’s restoration of a resident ambassador in Phnom Penh. In 2024 total merchandise trade between the two countries reached $2.4 billion, up from $2.1 billion in 2023. Cambodia’s imports from Canada totaled 33.4 million dollars in 2024, down from $37.2 million in 2023. In the same year, Canadian direct investment in Cambodia amounted to $2.9 billion. Cambodia’s main exports to Canada include apparel, footwear.
The Ministry of Commerce has signed a five-year agreement to sell 6.79 million tonnes of cassava to Vietnam in a move that provides a boost to farmers, but only plugs a section of the nation’s annual production capacity of 10 million tonnes.
