Around 600 workers of Chinese-owned Y&W Garment Co Ltd marched to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training to submit a petition as part of their protest to demand for their wages and benefits from the owner who suddenly declared bankruptcy. Workers have not been paid their last month’s salary. The Phnom Penh Municipal Court has temporarily seized all properties and materials belonging to Y and W Garment Co Ltd and ordered the owner and co-creditors of the company to pay over $3.295 million in penalties.

At least 30 residents in Kulen district’s Srayong commune have been charged under Article 259 of the Land Law by the provincial court for allegedly illegally occupying state land. Authorities used tear gas and fired their guns in the air to disperse about 130 protesters who tried to stop the destruction of homes last week. The dispute with Seila Damex affects some 300 families
