The National Election Committee (NEC) has defended its decision to reject and delete the names of 115 candidates from three opposition parties who were registered to contest in the June 5 Commune Election, saying the move was accurate, fair and transparent. A total of 78,457 people – including 22,596 women – from 17 political parties have applied for registration as observers during the June 5 commune council elections. Observers will be present on the voting day and at the counting of ballots, the National Election Committee (NEC) said in an April 4 press statement.
