The resignation of the National Election Committee (NEC) chairman, Sik Bun
Hok on June 1, citing poor health as the reason has been accepted by the
National Assembly’s Permanent Committee.

Two new candidates have been identified by the National Assembly (NA) for
the position of chairman of the National Election Committee (NEC).

Mock elections across all provinces will be held on June 20 to trial a new
vote-tallying system involving technology funded by Japan, the E.U. and
China, ahead of upcoming 2022 commune elections that are scheduled for next
June. However, The National Election Committee (NEC) cancelled this pilot
Commune Council Election” due to concerns over the unrelenting spread of the
Covid-19 community outbreak.
