The National Election Committee (NEC) has removed the names of 21 people from the voter list, and banned them from participating in or standing for elections for the next 20 years. Each person was fined 10 million riel ($2,500 dollars) for inciting others to invalidate their ballots during Sunday’s National Election.

The National Election Committee’s (NEC) trial chamber on July 27 handed down fines ranging from 10 to 15 million riel ($2,500 to $3,750) against four individuals. The judgement was announced following receipt of complaints from the provincial election commissions of Kampong Cham, Pailin and Tbong Khmum against these five individuals.
Three Candlelight leaders have been arrested since election day, with Banteay Meanchey’s party vice president Chao Veasna still detained in the provincial prison, according to Candlelight spokesperson Kimsour Phearith.
