Prime Minister Hun Sen, as ASEAN chair, and his delegation arrived in Naypyidaw, Myanmar on the morning of January 7 for talks with General Min Aung Hlaing, military chief and chairman of the ruling State Administration Council (SAC), over the crisis in Myanmar. Before the visit, Prime Minister Hun Sen and President Joko Widodo exchanged views on recent developments in Myanmar and stressed the importance of strengthening ASEAN’s efforts to assist Myanmar in finding appropriate solutions. The two-day visit amid heavy criticism from civil society and the public over his meetings with the military junta.

The U.S. embassy in Cambodia said it was concerned by police action against workers protesting layoffs at a casino run by a Hong-Kong listed firm after a union leader was taken away in the latest series of detentions. Other concerns are expressed by four special rapporteurs on the arrests of former employees of the integrated resort NagaWorld who had been protesting for nearly 20 days.
