A European Union delegation met with top officials in Cambodia to discuss whether the Southeast Asian nation should continue to enjoy preferential trade terms with the bloc amid rollbacks on democracy, even as Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered “attacks” on the country’s opposition.

Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday reiterated that he would not be overly concerned if Cambodia had its access to the EU’s “Everything But Arms” (EBA) scheme withdrawn because the Kingdom would not die without it.

The Japanese government on Thursday provided a 300 million yen ($2.7 million) grant to commence the Project for the Development of the Base for Disaster Prevention for Improving Living Environment in Cambodia, which aims to minimize the effects of natural disasters.

The Japanese government yesterday agreed to provide funds to provincial health departments and the Angkor Hospital for Children in order to help children with illnesses.

Cambodia and the US  signed a bilateral military cooperation agreement covering this year and next, with the aim of strengthening ties in humanitarian affairs, education and military training.

China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry deputy minister Kong Xaunyou  arrived for a visit to the Kingdom to strengthen ties between both countries.
