The Kingdom is set to sign a loan agreement with Japan on June 20. The more than $180 million will fund improvements in rural road connectivity and a water supply expansion project, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The remarks of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) Volker Turk, on June 16 UNHCR statement which called on the Cambodian government to take immediate action to open up citizens’ rights and create an environment “favourable to a free and fair” July 23 election. Turk’s statement followed the disqualification of the Candlelight Party (CP) from the election.

The US remains the biggest market for Cambodian exports, particularly for textiles and garments. However, the country’s apparel exports saw a significant decrease in the first four months of 2023. These exports to the US amounted to $643.886 million, comprising 26.50 per cent of Cambodia’s total exports of $2,807.546 million during this period. This figure, however, marks a 50.32 per cent decline from the corresponding period in 2022.
