Cambodia, the incumbent chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, says the Myanmar Junta’s Foreign Minister Wunna Maung Lwin will not be invited to attend the 10-nation bloc’s top diplomatic gathering in Phnom Penh this month. Cambodia’s top diplomat Prak Sokhonn has confirmed that the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat will resume on February 16-17 and that he is preparing for his first visit to Myanmar in his capacity as the bloc’s special envoy.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved tow grants worth $6.8 million to assist in the recovery of Cambodia and strengthen the rice supply chain in the country which, like other sectors, was also affected by the Covid-19.

United Nations human rights officials called on Cambodia to drop plans to create a “National Internet Gateway” that would allow the government to monitor all internet traffic in the country. Cambodia's Permanent Mission to the UN Offices in Geneva affirmed that the creation of the National Internet Gateway (NIG) adheres to the principles of legality, necessity and proportionality. It said the NIG has nothing to do with ‘repression’ or ‘undermining privacy rights’ as claimed by three UN special rapporteurs.
