Two senior officers at the Ministry of National Defence have been summoned to appear in court in connection to charges of aggravated assault and illegal confinement.
The Supreme Court heard the bail applications of three environmental activists who were charged with “incitement” for criticising Phnom Penh authorities on Facebook last year.
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on February 3 heard arguments in the case of Rong Chhun, head of the Cambodia Watchdog Council (CWC), and two other defendants on charges of “incitement to cause social chaos”.

On January 30, the Anti-Corruption Unit closed the procedure for the month-long asset declaration required from Cambodian officials every two years, while Cambodia scored a 21 out of 100 on Transparency International’s (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2020, a one-point improvement over the score the year before. A total of 660 complaints of corruption were filed last year, the National Council Against Corruption (NCAC) said.
