Kampong Speu Provincial Court charged and jailed a former high-ranking
military officer accused of beating his businesswoman lover, causing serious
injuries, and unlawfully confining her for several hours after an argument.
The Phnom Penh Municipal court sentenced nine activists, including a
lawmaker from the banded main opposition party, to prison terms ranging from
12 to 20 months on incitement charges for issuing pro-democracy petitions
last year.
A court in Cambodia’s capital has rejected a request for bail for the
autistic teenage son of a jailed opposition activist, with the boy’s mother
not allowed inside the courtroom to attend the hearing.
