A spokesperson for the Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s Prosecutor Office has explained the incitement charges levelled against Ny Nak, a prominent social media user and government critic. The case centres around Nak’s allegation that labour minister Heng Sour is involved in profiting from a land concession.
The National Authority for Out-of-Court Dispute Resolution will begin receiving complaints from citizens to review and mediate from March 1 onward. The recruitment of officials and the preparation of legal documents are already underway.
Since the appointment of the new government in August 2023, at least 50 national police officers have been demoted and dismissed from the Interior Ministry framework for breaching rules put in place to ensure the proper conduct of police forces.
The Justice Ministry has rolled out two campaigns to speed up court hearings and resolve alleged irregularities in the justice system in order to enhance transparency and quality. The campaigns, including the set up of out-of-court settlements, have been lauded by civil society groups. The Ministry of Justice has established a Strategic, Policy Research and Analysis Group to reform and amend laws and regulations in the field of justice in Cambodia.
