Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday told Sar Kheng and other government officials not to respond to an unnamed group who he said had urged the Minister of Interior to stage a coup against the leader of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP). Interior Minister Sar Kheng yesterday called exiled former opposition leader Sam Rainsy a “pretend patriot” for fleeing the country while his supporters in the Kingdom face legal troubles. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Kheng on Sunday refuted claims that the Kingdom’s democracy has taken a step backwards in recent years. Interior Minister Sar Kheng yesterday said the government is committed to strengthening democracy, noting that it has ensured press freedom in the Kingdom.
