The Candlelight Party has decided to adopt a seven-point policy plan in the run-up to the June 5 commune council elections. The decision came at the May 15 extraordinary congress of the party in Khmuonh commune’s Anlong Kgan village of the capital’s Sen Sok district. The Party official asked members to refrain from incendiary comments even once rallies kick off.

The Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) requested the National Election Committee (NEC) to allow a public forum where candidates contesting in the upcoming commune council election can debate on development polices. The idea, which was put forward by the GDP during a press conference, has already garnered support from other parties and NGOs. The Party (GDP) has said it has set out responsibilities for its candidates running in the commune elections next month.

The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) said it welcomes any investigation over the alleged use of state resources to fund its campaigns, demanding evidence to prove the allegation.
