The Phnom Penh Municipal Court began the trial of nine former Cambodia
National Rescue Party (CNRP) activists, who have been charged with
“incitement to commit a felony or cause social unrest” for gathering about
100 people in front of the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh asking China to
respect the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements.

After years of silence following the court dissolution of the Cambodia
National Rescue Party (CNRP), prominent veteran politician Pol Ham, a former
CNRP vice president, has requested “political rehabilitation” from the
government. Grassroots officials with the banned Cambodia National Rescue
Party (CNRP) urged their former colleagues to continue working for the
people following the defection of several senior members, while analysts
warned that leaving the party will weaken the country’s political
opposition.
