Overseas supporters of the Candlelight Party have protested against the detention of party vice president Thach Setha and demand the government release him. Thach Setha’s lawyer has filed a complaint to the court of appeals against the Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s decision to detain his client, following Setha’s January 16 arrest on a charge related to issuing dud cheques.
As the Candlelight Party faces an onslaught of lawsuits and violent threats, a party official said they were moving ahead with preparations for the July election, with analysts predicting a bumpy path to the ballot box for the primary opposition threat to Hun Sen.
