While five opposition parties have expressed confidence in winning more than 40 seats by forging an alliance for the upcoming National Assembly (NA) Election. With an eye on preventing the ruling party from amending the Constitution, Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) proposes a new front to bring opposition parties under one roof. Called New Political Democratic Alliance 2023 or Alliance 2023, it aims to prevent any party from having an absolute majority in the 2023 National Assembly (NA) election.
At least one outspoken member of the Candlelight Party (CP) has reacted harshly to a suggestion by the Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) that several parties form an alliance to consolidate their support and win for votes in next year’s July 23 parliamentary election.

The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) is confident that even if opposition parties group together to form an alliance to contest the National Election next year, their strength will not be as good as in 2013 that saw CPP losing 22 seats in the 123-seat Assembly.
