Royalist Funcinpec party president and former first Prime Minister Prince Norodom Ranariddh passed away from illness yesterday afternoon in France where he was receiving medical treatment. After the death of royalist Funcinpec party president Prince Norodom Ranariddh, the party immediately named Prince Ranariddh’s oldest son Prince Norodom Chakravuth as “acting president”, to take charge for the upcoming elections.

Supporters of Cambodia’s opposition party are expressing their disappointment with a message former president Kem Sokha posted on Facebook that forbids Sam Raingsy and the party from using his name and photos for political purposes. Rainsy’s scramble to call Sokha’s message a result of court pressure or Hun Sen’s coercion suggested to Sary that Rainsy was not expecting the announcement.
