In a report to the UN Secretary-General release, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Phnom Penh (OHCHR) expressed its concern over \u201cshrinking civic space and continued political tension\u201d in Cambodia over the last year, with the COVID-19 pandemic having played a large role. A United Nations report to the Human Rights Council showed that its human rights activities and programs were subject to uninvited police presence and surveillance in Cambodia, with local rights monitoring groups facing similar adversities. Cambodia has rejected a UN Human Rights Council report accusing the government of sending police to monitor human rights gatherings \u2013 intimidating local participants and NGOs \u2013 but rights groups said harassment was in fact the norm in the Southeast Asian nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
